Our Story

Love at first sight

Jacob and Kate met at St. Olaf College on the alpine ski team. During training, Kate was immediately impressed with how many box jumps Jacob could do in 60 seconds. They flirted a lot during that first ski season together; but at Lutsen, in the spring of 2004, when Jacob was given the choice to ride up the chairlift with some other girl or Kate... he chose to ride up with the other girl. Kate may have over-analyzed the situation a bit and came to the devastating, yet logical conclusion that he probably wasn't really interested.

A perfect match

Amazingly, the next week, Jacob called out of the blue and asked Kate on a date to see the movie The Passion of the Christ. She was giddy at first, and then quickly realized she had classes to study for (nerd) AND that it might be the oddest, most unromantic date movie ever. They decided to have a dinner date in the cafeteria instead. They awkwardly ended up wearing matching blue striped shirts, ran into most of the men's ski team, and thus the nickname "Caf-date-Kate" was born. Since then, their love has blossomed. They are best friends, soul mates, and consider themselves a pretty perfect team (except when deciding on where to set the thermostat... that remains a struggle).

The lucky groom

Jacob hails from beautiful Petoskey, MI and is super athletic, adventurous, kind, funny, and cute. His main passion is alpine skiing (but has also dabbled in ski jumping, telemarking, ski ballet, and catching big air off of really huge jumps). He also enjoys mountain biking, kite boarding, playing soccer, reading weird books, telling corny jokes, playing the banjo, and occasionally being very gourmet.  He is a head coach for the Buck Hill Ski Team and also coaches skiing and soccer for Lakeville North High School. He is currently working towards his teaching license in high school language arts.

The even luckier bride

Kate (a.k.a "Katherine") grew up in Burnsville, MN and is also pretty athletic, adventurous, kind, funny and cute. Really cute actually. She also enjoys skiing, biking, soccer, skiing, and reading as well (they have a lot in common). She is an artist, crafter, do-it-yourselfer, likes organizing things, and teaches really cool science stuff to some amazing 6th and 7th graders at Highview Middle School.

The couple that skis together, stays together

They currently reside in lovely St. Paul, Minnesota. They are very much looking forward to getting married and celebrating their love with family and friends in Northfield, MN, where this whole crazy adventure got started.

That's one sexy tractor.
